THE EFFECTIVENESS OF INDUMAX AGAINST THE VERTICILLIUM FUNGUS IN EGGPLANT CULTIVATION

The eggplant crop is very sensitive to Verticillium, a fungus that penetrates through the roots and affects the transit of sap, causing wilting and desiccation. With a special impact on nightshades such as eggplant, tomato or pepper, it weakens the plants to the point of considerably reducing crop yields or, in the worst cases, causing their loss.

Although it is difficult to treat, at MAFA we show in this trial the high effectiveness of one of our biostimulants, Indumax, for its control.

WHY USE INDUMAX?

Because it induces the eggplant plant to generate new and healthy shoots.
Formulated from microelements in the form of stable molecular complexes, Indumax induces plant self-defense with the generation of proteins that have a great influence on photosynthesis, respiration and lignification.

THE TRIAL, IN DETAIL

This MAFA trial was carried out in February 2024 at the DOBLE R farm, in Michoacán (Mexico).
To verify the effectiveness of Indumax against the Verticillium fungus, conventional management in an affected plot (control) was compared with MAFA treatment in another also damaged plot. Specifically, two applications of Indumax (5 ml/liter of water) were made at an interval of 15 days.

11.4% more new shoots were observed in the plants treated with MAFA compared to those in the control plot.

33.3% more fruits were observed in the plants treated with MAFA compared to those managed with conventional procedures in the other plot.

SOME CONCLUSIONS

Taking into account that Verticillosis is a disease that is difficult to fully control, it is necessary to carry out sustainable soil management so that it is as fertile and healthy for a long time.
The lignosulfonic and carboxylic acids and aluminum lignosulfonate in Indumax contribute to reducing the establishment of Verticillium and the symptoms it causes.
By increasing the level of phytoalexins and phenols, we achieve more resilient plants and, therefore, prepared to combat the Verticillium fungus, which is introduced into plants through injuries to the roots and nematode feeding.
