Higher quality and yield in blackberry cultivation with MAFA biostimulants

Who doesn’t like blackberries of good caliber, firm, juicy and that, in addition to being delicious, ‘enter through the eyes’. Well, that has been the objective of the combination of MAFA biostimulants that we have used in a recent trial on the cultivation of blackberries, a red fruit that is in high demand but extremely delicate in agricultural care and attention.

During our trial we set ourselves two main objectives:

On the one hand, biostimulate the plant in a vegetative and reproductive state, with the idea of achieving balanced and solid growth of the bush. The application of Aminon WSP, Balance and Optimar biostimulants favors root development and nutrient absorption, which results in better development of the bush and, therefore, of the blackberries.

To do this, applications were made every ten days of our biostimulant rich in amino acids Aminon WSP. And, the program was completed with alternating applications every seven days of Balance and Optimar, two powerful bioactivators with cytokininic and inductive action of protein synthesis respectively.

With all this, we improve the firmness and caliber of the blackberries.

On the other hand, the quality of the blackberry, and specifically its flavor, was enhanced with the application of Glucox. The potassium contribution improves the sugar content and color of the fruits, making them more attractive to the consumer. Specifically, we increase the Brix degree, an indicator that measures the number of sugars a food has. Therefore, it is one of the issues that define the internal quality of fruits and vegetables.

The trial

Between September and November 2023, we applied the biostimulants of Aminon WSP, Balance, Glucox and Optimar in a plot of blackberry cultivation (Elvira variety). The trial consisted of the evaluation of untreated plants and those that received periodic application of different doses of said biostimulants. Specifically, the results were compared after three irrigation applications every ten days of AMINON WSP® at a dose of 1gr/L, as well as two foliar applications alternating Balance and Optimar every seven days at a dose of 2ml/L. Additionally, in the vegetative state stage, a dose of 2ml/L of Glucox was applied to increase the Brix degrees of the crop.

The average weight of each blackberry, the total weight of kilos of blackberries produced by the same area of plants and the Brix degrees of the treated and untreated fruits were analyzed – as we will see in the subsequent graphs.

As we verified, the effectiveness on the quality of the fruits and the productive performance of the crop, without any presence of phytotoxicity, was once again demonstrated with our products, committed to zero residue agriculture.
